Lighting the Track at Boxengasse with Holt Sandblasted Wall Lights
Some projects bring together two worlds that share the same values. Lighting and automotive engineering may appear very different, but both rely on purposeful design, robust materials and careful attention to detail.
Our work with Boxengasse was a perfect example.
Vintage Electrical was proud to supply our Holt Sandblasted Aluminium Mast Down Lights to illuminate the trackside route at Boxengasse in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
A destination dedicated to Porsche culture
Set within 100 acres of Oxfordshire countryside, with more than 50,000 square feet of purpose-built premises, Boxengasse is a destination dedicated to Porsche culture.
The venue brings together remarkable cars, specialist businesses, collectors and automotive events in a setting where every detail has been carefully considered. Boxengasse’s emphasis on craftsmanship, design and engineering made it an ideal setting for our Holt lighting.
Discreet trackside illumination
Lighting an automotive venue requires a careful balance. The fittings must provide useful illumination and help define the route without distracting from the surrounding landscape or the cars using it.
The Holt lights were mounted at low level on timber posts positioned alongside the tarmac. Repeated along the route, they create a consistent visual line that naturally guides the eye through the grounds.
During the day, the compact fittings sit quietly against the timber, stone edging and mature landscape. Their textured sandblasted aluminium finish adds subtle industrial character without appearing overly polished or decorative.
After dark, the downward facing design is intended to cast a controlled pool of light towards the track and surrounding ground. This helps define the edge of the route while reducing unnecessary upward light and glare.
Why the Holt light was chosen
Inspired by traditional marine deck fittings, the Holt combines a compact mast down profile with the strength and character of solid cast aluminium.
The sandblasted finish gives each fitting a tactile, understated appearance that works particularly well with natural materials such as timber and stone. It also complements the engineered surfaces and purposeful architecture found throughout Boxengasse.
With an IP54 rating, the Holt is protected against dust and splashing water, making it suitable for exposed outdoor locations. Its hardwired mains connection and replaceable GU10 LED lamp also make it a practical choice for pathways, entrances, courtyards and commercial exterior projects.
Most importantly, its appearance grows directly from its function. The angled shade directs light downwards, while the compact body allows the fitting to remain unobtrusive when installed repeatedly along a route.
A shared approach to purposeful design
Boxengasse has been designed around an appreciation of craftsmanship, engineering and functional beauty. The same principles sit at the heart of Vintage Electrical.
We are drawn to lighting with honest materials and practical construction pieces that feel distinctive without relying on unnecessary decoration. The Holt’s industrial form, raw texture and precise light distribution made it a natural match for the venue.
The project demonstrates how carefully selected exterior lighting can become part of a setting rather than simply being added to it.
As classic Porsche 911s and modern performance cars travel through the grounds, the Holt fittings form an understated line alongside them. They provide a practical trackside detail that feels entirely at home among the timber posts, established landscape and purposeful automotive environment.
